About the Artist

Fine art portraiture is based on the foundation of traditional practices and techniques of the Masters through history. I have spent the better part of the past decade studying the techniques of the Masters of portraiture, from Vermeer to Velasquez to Sargent, through formal training and self-study.

In addition to my formal studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I have been mentored for several years by Master Portraitist Margaret Carter Baumgaertner. Painting from life is of utmost importance in creating portraits with energy and personality, and for this reason, I paint from live models on a regular basis to keep my painting fresh and spontaneous. It is also fairly common to find me in the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago, copying the Master works from the originals.

Portraiture is my passion, and I have dedicated years of study and practice to hone my technique. My dedication to following the traditions of formal portraiture is evident in my commission work, and my paintings now hang in the private collections of clients throughout the United States and Europe.
